We are all constantly faced with trials and tribulations, but what makes us or breaks us is how we choose to deal with them. Whether it be a lifelong addiction to a particular sin or sin or simply the beginning of an addiction to sin, we are faced with three choices. By addiction, i mean more than just a “screw up,” but a consistent behavior with no signs of genuine resistance or repentance. The first choice that we are faced with are ignoring the sin and continuing to do it. As Christians, God tells us what we should do and shouldnt do. We can simply obey God, and stop sinning by going cold turkey. Finally, the last choice is by far the hardest, but the most beneficial. It is understanding the ugly side of ourselves. It is embracing the sin that we are committing, and from it, learning more about who we are and just how unworthy we are. Not only are we called to obey the “Lord’s rules,” but we must embrace the sin because if we do not embrace it, we learn nothing about ourselves and do not truly become better people. Jesus embraced the sins of the world on the Cross. He willingly accepted the pain from the entire world, humbly accepting his fate despite his choice to do otherwise.
I feel that sin has become even more and more pushed under the table, and is no longer something that is face, but something that is buried. We as “Christians” are no longer following Jesus, but the idol that we have made that we call Jesus but is not truly him. It is the easy way out, the way that Jesus did not take and is not in scriptures. We must yearn to learn about ourselves, the good, but most the bad. We must understand it before we can master it.
